UK spec or Japanese import?
'UK' and 'Japanese' MX5s are all built in the same factory in Japan. The only definite way to tell if you have a UK spec car rather than an import is to check the chassis number. This is on the car log book (V5) or you can check the VIN plate on the engine bay, pictured below:
UK MX5s have 17 digit chassis numbers starting with: 'JMZNxxxxxxxxxxxxx'
Japanese MX5s have 10 digit numbers starting with:
- 'NA6C-xxxxxx' Mk1 1.6
- 'NA8C-xxxxxx' Mk1 1.8
- 'NB6C-xxxxxx' Mk2 1.6
- 'NB8C-xxxxxx' Mk2 1.8
